Biotechnologies offer glimpses of solutions to some very difficult environmental problems, such as improved energy sources, elimination and treatment of toxic waste, better ways to detect pollution, genetic engineering for environmental protection and control, development of cleaner processes,products,less harmful with reduced environmental impact, optional use of nature with synergistic integrated cycle of profit making processes, where waste of each process becomes a feedstock for another process. By considering all the above facts environmental biotechnology can be considered as driving force for integrated environmental protection leading to a sustainable development. An evolution of the consequences opportunities and challenges of modern biotechnologies are important both for policy making and industries for implementation of ways for sustainable development.
